SBC targets small businesses

March 3rd, 2003

From Reuters English News Service, a story on SBC’s new strategy to save their business model. (No URL on this at the moment.)

SBC’s new strategy will tout packages of local, long-distance, wireless, data and Internet services that can be customized for each small business, rather than marketing one-size-fits all service bundles.

Companies with up to 50 employees can get all their services on one bill, more personalized customer service and support from a single contact person. These small firms can save an average of up to 25 percent compared with standard “a la carte” retail prices for services, SBC said. Discounts may be as much as 40 percent for some service options.

But look out if they want a competitive part from someone else. SBC has been reported turning off DSL services for regular users that chose an alternative local phone carrier. The wrath of arrogance?
